Brewery District

In 2013 the City of Cincinnati’s Office of Environmental Quality planted trees at Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC) sites in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The 21 trees were planted with the help of UC Sustainability and Cincinnatus Scholarship volunteers at the Grant and Hanna Play Yards in the Brewery District.

“This tree planting project is just another example of the Renaissance occurring in Over-the-Rhine,” said Steve Hampton, Executive Director of Brewery District Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (BDCURB). “It’s great to see the momentum spillover from Main and Vine to McMicken. It’s a sign that people care about the Brewery District.”

The trees will provide much needed shade and help combat the urban heat island effect faced by downtown residents during the summertime.

In the Fall of 2012, the City of Cincinnati also planted 14 trees at a variety of Cincinnati Recreation Commission sites.
